Generic name: Brand names: Bayticol 10 mg/ml Pour-On Solution 100mL Dosage form: Drug class: Insecticide
Pharmacology and Mechanism of Action: A synthetic pyrethroid compound. Pyrethroids are mostly toxic to cats!
Current research indicates that synthetic pyrethroids disrupt sodium channels in nerve cell membranes, leading to delayed nerve repolarization. Type-II pyrethroids, such as flumethrin, are particularly potent, inducing prolonged repetitive nerve firing. Studies on the structure-activity relationship of various pyrethroids have shown that their activity may be linked to interactions with receptors of specific chiral configurations, contributing to their selective effectiveness against ectoparasites. These compounds do not exhibit anti-cholinesterase activity. Flumethrin, in particular, has demonstrated exceptional acaricidal properties.
